Before diving into what business to start, it’s crucial to anchor yourself in why an online business is such a powerful vehicle for your calling.
1. Flexibility
An online business allows you to design a schedule that honors your priorities, whether that’s being present for your family, serving in your church, or supporting your husband in ministry. For me, it has meant being able to drop everything during family health emergencies without the stress of requesting time off.
2. Scalability
Unlike a traditional business, an online business has limitless potential to grow and reach people all over the world. You can start small with a simple service and scale up over time, creating recurring or residual income that provides financial stability while freeing up your time.
3. Impact
An online business provides a platform to faithfully steward the gifts God has given you. It’s a way to multiply your talents, serve others authentically, and make a tangible difference for His Kingdom.
The “What”: From 17 Ideas to My Top 5

- Service-Based Business: Offer a skill you already have, such as virtual assistance, graphic design, or social media management. This is one of the fastest ways to start generating income online.
- Network Marketing: If you’re passionate about a specific product and enjoy building community, this model offers a low startup cost with built-in tools, training, and support.
- Affiliate Marketing: Earn commissions by recommending products you already use and love. This can become a great source of passive income once you’ve built an audience that trusts your recommendations.
The “How”: Craft Your Simple Business Statement
Once you have an idea of the what, it’s time to define it. A simple business statement is the key to getting clear on who you serve, the problem you solve, and how you solve it. This single sentence transforms your abstract idea into a concrete mission.
The formula is simple:
“My business exists to [solve specific problem or need] for [target audience] by using [unique skills, expertise or approach] to provide [solution, service, product].”
As you craft this statement, commit your work to the Lord. Pray over each part—your audience, their struggle, and your solution—and trust Him to establish your plans.
